Pocahontas Pantomime - 2023

Our Summer 2023 production is a pantomime version of Pocahontas, written and directed by Adrian Cunningham MBE, with artwork by Callum Russell.

Production Rundown

Our Summer 2023 production was be “Pocahontas”, a pantomime that follows the story of Pocahontas, Little White Dove, Running Bear and their mother Shining Star through love. Based on the film “Pocahontas” published by Walt Disney in the 90s.

Our production features a combination of local actors and amateurs. We’ve all worked together to pull off this production and we’d love to see you there in support of our hard work.

About the Production

Premiered for the first time at Brynamman Public Hall on August 24th, 25th and 26th, a summer pantomime for all the family written and directed by award-winning local playwright, Adrian Cunningham MBE.

We are the Brynamman Players! A new drama company based in the local community of Brynamman.

The story of Pocahontas is true. She was born in Virginia in 1596 and came from the Powhatan people. She died on her way home to Virginia and is buried in St George’s Church in Gravesend Kent.

Our pantomime is completely fictitious with amazing characters, music, and songs. We have the beautiful Pocahontas who wants to travel and see the world and Captain John Smith who helps her on her journey. Beware of the evil Witch Doctor, Sitting Cow and his evil henchmen Wig and Wam. Every pantomime must have a dame, Shining Star, the most beautiful woman in Virginia, and the dame’s love interest the gold-grabbing General Forbes Brown.

The tribal chief, Umpa, Pocahontas’s father, is a kindly old man who wishes to please everybody. Other characters are Running Bear, Little White Dove and Bright Moon with many other lovable characters plus a wonderful team of dancers.
